Meet Lisa Bealing, the visionary behind the brand.

Born and raised in Calgary, Lisa’s passion for design began in her family’s flower shop on 1st Avenue, surrounded by the vibrant colours, textures, and scents of nature. Growing up amidst greenhouses in the Ramsay area, she developed an instinctive eye for harmony, detail, and composition — qualities that continue to define her work today.

After earning her bachelor’s degree in Interior Design in 2006, Lisa transformed her lifelong passion into a career, founding Functional Designs Co. in 2009. Her Calgary-based firm has since become known for its timeless, functional spaces that reflect both aesthetic excellence and everyday comfort.

Lisa’s design philosophy centres on balance — blending creativity and practicality to craft interiors that feel intentional, cohesive, and deeply personal. From new builds to complete home transformations, she approaches every project with thoughtful precision and a genuine commitment to her clients’ vision.
